The PAL Vinyl Record Asset
In 2016, prior to relocating from Tokyo to Hong Kong, a foundational collection of 1,700 vinyl pressings was liquidated for a nominal ¥7 per unit—an enduring regret that subsequently redefined PAL’s archival philosophy. Over the ensuing decade, this archive was methodically reconstructed.
Sourced primarily through Discogs and systematically indexed via the Discogs API, the collection now encompasses over 2,200 pressings.
While early acquisitions included VG+ grading, empirical listening tests revealed unacceptable discrepancies in seller grading—introducing surface artifacts and background noise incompatible with high-pressure club playback and PAL’s uncompromising signal standards. Consequently, acquisition parameters were strictly elevated to Near Mint (NM) and Mint conditions only. Serving as the physical software of the PAL ecosystem, this ledger documents the reference baseline for our pure analog signal path and is updated continuously with every new acquisition.
